...I didn’t race that one but Earl and the other 50 or so riders ranging in age from 56 to 81 warmed up by riding 5 miles to the start.

...I can't tell you much about his race but he did break the Missouri Record for his age group with a time of 6:29, I think.

...However the riders that started immediately in front of me were not in my age group so it was going to be difficult for me to judge if I was going fast relative to my age group or not. ... I could see a long steep hill coming up and was preparing for a long pull when I noticed a guy in a blue shirt standing along the road about 50 feet in front of me.

Tour de Hills by Will Frank

We rolled up to the start line and deiced that we would combine the 1/2 field with the 3/4 field, this made for a total of 20 riders. As the race started the attacks from team Panther came hot and heavy, a few small moves went but nothing that ever lasted longer than a few miles. ... As we reached the top of the climb it was all moderately down hill to small rollers going into the finish line, so we knew that the first two riders had won that day, but they where in the 1/2 field which meant that Ian or I could still win the 3/4 race. ... As we got with in 5 miles of the finish, I started conversing with Ian on how he and I where feeling and decided that we would try a few moves to get away towards the finish line. ... This was my first win of the season and in due time since Nick Rogers informed me that if I didn’t win a race some time soon he would soon replace me with a rider that can provide some results for the team.

Tour of Hermann

The race turned into a race of attrition as more and more riders were shelled out the back each time up the hill. 72 riders started and on the final lap the lead group had been decanted down to 15 riders.

...Going into the Sunday morning road race Ian was sitting in first place in GC for the 4’s and Will was in 3rd for the 3’s with Nicholas and Patrick both within striking distance of the podium.

...Going through town for the second lap the riders had to negotiate an always sketchy feed zone and then were rerouted up a street that was not used on the first lap and was about as steep as the side of a building. ... Patrick Small proved he was worthy of the most aggressive rider award as he found himself in another move off of the front that looked very promising but again it wasn’t to be as the field brought the group back in a rare organized chase. Nicholas Rogers ran into some bad luck with a puncture about 10 miles from the finish and that bad luck continued for the team as Will and Patrick got stuck on some bad wheels in the chaotic sprint that placed them out of the GC points at the finish.

Actually, most of the preparations were made the night before so all we had to do was eat and load.

...A couple of years ago, I went to the State Championship Road Race in Arkadelphia and had left my shoes at home.

...Watching as spirit and flesh start to crack at the feed zone, I wondered who would be the next to cave in to the chilly winds and early season of not yet race hardened legs.

I saw him and Charlotte at the Pizza Party that night so I know that he was back and didn’t look much worse for the wear.

...Hwy 72 from Bentonville to Gravette had been chatted with some crushed stone during the winter storm and the tiny chards were still on the shoulder playing havoc with our tires. I think we had at least 6 flats on the way out, and the group that returned claim 11 more.
