Category: Pro 1,2 Distance: 110 Miles BMC Racers: Scott Barnes, Scott Walnofer, Jim Farasy, Steve Grife, and T.J. Erlacker Riders: 36 Weather: 42 Degrees Wind: 7 mph
Course: Each lap was around 55 miles and the course was very undulating. Nine miles into each lap featured a 6.5 mile gradual climb (Info from Delorme) with some steep sections at 9% grade. At mile 25 each lap, there was a 5 mile climb that was deceptively steep. The last climb worth describing was 50 miles into each lap and it was a stair stepped climb that was very short (less than .5 mile), but it always seemed to split up the pack because of the speeds going up the climb. The total feet of climbing for two laps was 8,178 and to compare that to the Joe Martin RR’s which we all know is hard, the 110 mile Friday RR at the Joe Martin is 5,400 of climbing.
Summary: The major teams represented at the race were Mercy, BMC, Big Shark, Dent Wizard, Mesa Cycling. You would think in a 110 mile RR that it was start out pretty tamed, but...

The number of bicyclists using the roads has increased rapidly and this rate of increase is expected to continue. The combination of the bicycle and the motor vehicle on the same road has the potential for dangerous situations. The bicyclist is a legal user of the road and must be respected for these rights. Category: Cat 1,2 Number of Riders: 16 BMC Racers: Scott Walnofer, Steve Grife, Scott, Barnes, Tim Tobbe Temperature: 45 approx. Wind: Approximately 14 mph out of the east
Course: The course consisted of a 20 mile loop and we had to do three laps. The course is rolling with two climbs. The first climb is on the backside of the course and is only .4 mile, but it always hurts because of the pace. The next climb is the infamous Hell’s Kitchen climb which is 1.3 miles long and has a section that is about 15% grade. This climb usually decides the race in one form or fashion.
Summary: The forecast called for an 80% chance of rain, but...

The Law of the Jungle says....eat or be eaten. The BMC Pride of Lions went to a watering hole called Lake Travis Texas. We heard that most of the edible critters would be hanging around "Lago Vista". We were right. We saw springboks, gazelles, elans, mountain goats and a few grizzled old water buffalo. On Saturday we separated out the various herds..."

Annual Venesian Inn Social Event
By @ 12:39 PM :: 197 Views ::

|
The annual Venesian Inn social event has been sceduled for April 15 and all BMC members as well as family and friend are invited. The plan is to leave Lewis & Clark around 1:30pm so we can easily ride together and arrive there to eat. You do not have to ride there to be a part of this social event, spouses and friends are encouraged to join us there by vehicle to eat. Afterwards, the riders may choose to ride home in the family vehicle or ride his or her bike back to Lewis & Clark afterwards. In the past, we would try and arrive at the Venesian Inn between 4 - 4:30pm when they open. That way, we would have the whole place to ourselves before the crowds would start showing up.

Dog attacks are high on the list of cycling fears. Maybe you can’t stop Fang from giving chase, but you can outsmart him if you know how dogs think—assuming that stinkin’ mutt even has a brain...
